I am sorry to say that Susan did not contribute to my book. I am not sure why, perhaps she was just too busy. I do thank all the other gals that participated. It took sixteen months to complete this project.:)

Here are the pictures of my book.

This page is from Judy. It's very pretty and colorful. It says:
"Hope" is the thing with feathers-that perches in the soul-
And sings the tune without the words
And never tops - at all.

This one if from Carrie. I love this page, it's Katie our "wiener" dogs.

This is from Alison. Love the beautiful colors and shapes Alison used for this page.

This page is from Karmyn. She put a little Spring in my book with this page.

This one is from Connie. Beautiful patchwork quilt blocks. They are cozy and warm!

This is from Angela. She added some Spring with all these beautiful colors and flowers. The poem says:
Spring time baby birds.....I can hear them "Singing", but cannot see them; yet!

This is from Susan. She took her idea from my sign in pages. A Cat of A Different Color. I like this, it's awesome!

This is from Stephanie. It's called "Patchwork of Life". Love the colors she used and all the little things she added on the right hand page. Flowers, birds, butterflies, and dog bites.

And the last page is from Lisa. "All Things Grow With Love". Just love that saying, it's so true.

Thank you all very much for my "Own Book". I'll cherish it forever!!

Here is my finished book. You can view all of my work HERE at my blog.

The side view: LOVE the beads that Susan added. It really added a unique presence to my book.

I love that Alison added another book into the page - (and the story line had me laughing! - yeah, a young hot stud drinking coke in your kitchen is nothing but trouble!!!)

Sherrie seemed to really got to "know" me and incorporated aspects of my life - our long roadtrip, postcrossing. It felt so personal!

This page made me laugh out loud. I LOVE that it is a postcard and how Judy made the famous Photographer "shame" me! (I'm still giggling over this)

The picture does not do this page justice. Stephanie's page just sparkles. It is gorgeous.

Carrie did two wonderful pages. I love the theme. (I caught glimpses of her other pages and think adding in magazine recipes and decorating tidbits was ingenious!)

Lisa was so creative in using the book pages - such a clever way to fold them up! I love the colors here too.

Susan's addition of the beads made my book "sing". Also - I loved that she included a tulip/spring inspired page. I was feeling the EXACT same way at the time!

This page made me smile. I want all of Connie's wishes to come true!!!

Angela's wintery theme is great. I love the colors and how she left a little spot for me to write in! (her creation was a "flip" design)

I can't get over how amazing everyone's work is - I absolutely love the finished product.

THANK YOU EVERYONE. I can't tell you how tickled I was to see everyone's unique style and creative work. I have a perma-grin right now!

Thank you all for being so patient with me. Dennis' heart problems have really drained me of my creative abilities lately. It's hard to be creative when you're worrying, let alone when he's now underfoot more than ever and trying to find a moment I can actually do what I want, lol. Hi Gals, I got Carries book in the mail on Monday. What a lovely cover..very pretty! Unfortunately I was in the hospital..so it is still on my desk..but I am feeling much better and I hope, God willing and the creek don't rise to have it out after the weekend! It was a very bad evil stop your breathing pneumonia or bronchitis bug..but I survived and will get the book done while I am still on the prednisone!! I will post again when I mail it. :) Connie

Hey Gals, I received Karmyn's and Alison's books in the mail today, Thursday April 23.

Just a note, for the gals that use Decoupage or paint..before you mail your books put some wax paper in-between your pages. One book came to me with the pages stuck together so tightly it looked like one page.. luckily I got them unstuck and I am waiting to hear from Susan how she wants me to proceed with the small repairs. Well things did not go as planned, I hit writer's block, or would that be alterer's block, anyway, I finally came up with a neat idea, did it but did not mail out on Friday as I intended. However, I did mail Susan's book today, via Priority (2 days they said).

BUT! I forgot to take a photo of my spread and am hoping someone else can snap one for me? Pretty please! I really wanted to keep a photo of each one I did. :(

It's Official: I'm The Bottleneck

Not to worry, the postmaster told me, Media Mail takes 5 to 15 business days.

I still haven't received Sherrie Plummer's book that she sent out on January 7. I'm hoping she sent it by Media Mail because if she sent it by Priority Mail, it's probably lost. Fifteen business days is three weeks. Throw in a holiday like MLK day and it's even longer.

All this waiting is giving me a rash considering if the turnover rate for altering a book is two weeks, and it takes three weeks for me to receive the book, then we're talking five weeks a pop. Five weeks times nine books equals see ya next year.

It's especially daunting when I hear you all are sending out your second book, and I haven't even received my first. Waaa!

Hi -

I finished altering the pages for Alison's book - I thought about posting a picture here, but decided not to - so it will be a surprise when they are all completely done.

I'll be sending it off to the next person Wednesday or Thursday!

That was fun - but a little more challenging than when I did mine. I had to really sit and think about what I wanted the page to look like - and how I wanted it to kind of fit the same scheme as her cover.

Sneaky hint: I found the exact same purple paper she had used (quite by accident!!!)

I mailed mine Tuesday morning... I ended up using a padded envelope... I hadn't thought to check the blog first to see what everyone else was doing. I'm flexible... I'll find some boxes to mail in for the future... I'm excited about this project....

I mailed mine yesterday, too. I know not everyone may have used a box to ship, but I was thinking that if we used boxes to send our books we could reuse the same box over & over to resend the person's book, with the original sender ending up with the same box they started with. That way we could mark a comment on the outside of the box like "this box has been to Raleigh, NC" or something more clever and cute like that, it could be a part of this whole experience. Just a thought.

Let me introduce myself... I'm Angela... mom of 3 active kids in the great Northwest. I'm a teacher and I'm back in school attaining my Masters Degree. Life is busy, but I have to have a creative outlet. I am thrilled to participate in this altered book project. It is the first time that I've done anything like this, but I'm ready for the challenge. Hi Everyone,

My book is done, but I'm having a really hard time stopping, so it might appear a "little" different when it arrives at Stephanie's.

I chose a hard cover book that has been sitting on my shelf for awhile, Anyone But You. I am completely new to this technique, so after I picked out my book I just drug out all of my scrapbooking supplies and tried to be as creative as possible. {I got stuck in a teal moment, but please use whatever color under the rainbow that strikes your fancy, I love them all.}

I checked out all of the links and they were all very helpful. I liked the Flickr pages the best for inspiration and the blog/website links for information and tutorials.

I am thinking I might want to use colored pencils for my designs, but we'll see how far I get with that... there are some lovely examples out there. My favorite is this one.

When you get my book PLEASE incorporate a lot of you in there, too. I really want my book to be a shared experience.

My Book is Done

My book is done and I had a wonderful time working on it. I had a hard time stopping and can't wait to start our Round Robin!! I was afraid that I would not get this accomplished, but it turned out that it was hard to stop once I got started. Here are a few pictures:

I chose an old cookbook, dating back to 1942. It has lots of pictures inside which I thought would make it fun to work with. I don't care if you glue pages together or remove pages....do whatever your artistic voice tells you to do.

Here is a little bit about me.....I work part time as a Dental Hygienist. I have 2 children (ages 13 and 8) whom we adopted (their stories are on my blog!!)....hence my blog name - RDHMom (registered dental hygienist - mom) my two jobs, one for money and one for love! I love gardening, cooking, flowers, fairies, animals of all kinds (even ones with scales), children, laughing, hiking, walking, nature, the redwood forest, the beach, rain, music, theater, reading, movies, and chocolate. I don't like shopping, materialism, TV, dishonesty, bigotry, racism, and dirty floors. Basically I am very easy going and like most everything.

I am very excited to get started and get to know everyone better!!

Book Update- Karmyn

I thought I'd share my book since I finished it last night. I was very apprehensive about this whole project, but once I got started, I entered the "Creative Zone" and couldn't believe how quickly it all came together. Now I am very excited to work on the rest of them!

I still need to put a protective coating of something on the cover. I was thinking Modge Podge - but does anyone else suggest something better?

Here is one of the Sign-In pages that I completed. I was able to put 5 spots per layout. I figured I needed 10 spots to be filled out (11 artists minus myself)

I'll leave the other pages I finished as surprise for when it is received in the mail.

Well, I worked on my book today. I like the way it turned out. I found some glue that works really good. It's Elmer's Craft Bond extra strength Spray Adhesive. Also Aleene's original TACKY GLUE works well. You can get both at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Thought I would add some personal stuff about me.
I am a 57 year old woman who loves to read, crochet, quilt, garden, and scrapbook.
READING - I mostly like reading mysteries, but will read just about anything. Some of my favorite authors include James Patterson, Joann Fluke, Sue Grafton and J. A. Jance.
CROCHET - I have been crocheting since I was about 14. I mostly like to make afghans. I also love to make pineapple doilies!
QUILT - I have been quilting for 25+ years. I am a needle turn applique quilter. I love making quilts for family and friends. I am also a hand quilter. One of my favorite patterns is Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam.
GARDEN - I putter around the garden, but am not an expert. I am an amateur at gardening. I like to plant what I like and hope it lives till the next year. I would love to have a cottage garden, but have no idea what or how to go about building one.
SCRAPBOOK - Been scrapbooking for 15+ years. I have about 20 albums I have done. Still have about 5 or 6 that are on going albums. That's how I found out about Altered Books. Was browsing around blogland and kept seeing these. So did some hunting and pumped into Lisa's blog and the rest is history so to speak.

Judy's Before Pictures

As you can see I have chosen a fairly small book (6 1/2 inch square) that will fit easily in a postal mailer and not cost too much to mail. The book is 61 pages long, so if you glue pages together, the rest of round robin might not have much to work with. But hey you're the artist so do what you want.

The only thing that I must insist that you DO NOT do is add fragrance of any sort. I know, how ironic since the before book is call The Fragrant Art of Aromatherapy, but I have issues with smells. I'm the kind of person who has the rip out all those perfume samples in magazines before I can even flip through them.

Click on that and it will take you to my photos. One of my big projects is to get that organized and scan pre-digital photos. I also like taking pictures, lots of pictures. (I used to be a Fotomate (worked at a Fotomat.)) Santa gave me a Nikon D60 for Christmas and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I think that's how I found you (Lisa People). I went to join a Nikon Flickr group, and there was a thread inviting people to Marco Monday, and then I found all these "let's do this on this day of the week," and I'll tell you it was like a splash of cool water on a hot day. Reeeefreshing!

I also like to write and blogging is a super way to see what's out there in this big old world. If you know any good websites or blogs, please share. I think word of blog is very cool.

I also like to garden, although in the dead of winter, I don't think about it much. I like food, sometimes to make, but mostly to eat. Right now I'm looking for an Artichoke Dip recipe. Does anyone have a good one? I'm into nature and my cat. I dance around in the kitchen too.

I'm highly tangential. Me and my guy like to go out for a drive and see where the world takes us. I was born, raised, lived my entire life thus far and probably will be buried in California. I've visited every single state in the union except Alaska and Hawaii. I am a happy person.

Get a book with heavier pages..some people will want to glue several of them together perhaps?
There is a product called Perfect Paper Adhesive, I also read that Golden Gel Medium works well. Mod Podge for Paper may also work well.

If you use Mod Podge on any part of your book or pages use the Hard Coat Mod Podge. It has been my experience that Mod Podge in the Gloss, Matte or Satin takes forever to cure. Like many, many weeks. IF you use Mod Podge then please put wax paper in between the pages..because they may stick together..then you have to put it in the freezer in hopes that you can pry it apart, without damaging the book.
The sign in page is great!
We could all make :
1. Our own sign in page with the appropriate number of spaces
2. A welcome page using both a right and left side with our personal info..address, email, and blog address or addresses.
I think we have to keep in mind that this is fun, and not likely to be perfect. Just FUN!

I got my book, unless I find a different one. It has quite heavy pages and measures 6 by 8 1/2 and has 198 pages. The pages are not glued into the spine, they are folded and stitched. It is what it is. Connie :)
I say read the blogs and get some ideas about the persons book you are getting.
On the Yahoo group, it is fine with me but I probably wouldn't use it.

Just wondering how everyone's doing with their books. Have you gotten any really good ideas? I have a few rattling around. I am planning on working on mine next week. I will be off work for two weeks for Christmas break. Yea, I work in the school system. The kids will be out of school for 2 weeks. So I am hoping to get some work done on my book.
